Big Cat Week – does it still work in the earlier slot of 5.45pm/5.30pm.

Published by under Big Cat Diary

The Diaries have lost their traditional 7.00pm slot on BBC1 now occupied year round by the One Show. Big Cat Diary started life in 1996 on BBC1 and then migrated to BBC2 on Sunday aftertoons. This was popular with familes. When BCD moved to BBC1 and became BC Week it doubled its audience. Nobody is sure where the show will fit in future scheduling. The idea is that this year we might go ‘live’ from the Mara in Sept 2008 – but having worked with Julian Pettifer on the series of live shows from the Mara in 1989 we are not sure how effective this might be – would it be any more appealing than they way we film BCW now which as a reality based show has a ‘live’ feel already?

Elephant Diaries allows you to catch up on news of the latest series.

All the Diaries – Big Cat, Elephant, Big Bear – traditionally occupied the BBC1 7.00pm slot now occupied by The One Show. Stripping the Diaries across a single week proved very popular and helped build a sense of anticipation of ‘what happened next’ and provided continuity. But Series 2 – which aired during first two weeks in January – broke the mould, with the 5 programmes shown over two weeks rather than five consecutive days.

Will there be a Series 3? We are hoping that Elephant Diaries might be re-commissioned but at present there is a lot of uncertainty about the future of the Diaries.

About ‘Events’

Published by under Events

We spend much of the year on the road photographing wildlife and people around the world. Some of our favourite destinations are the Masai Mara in Kenya, Namibia/Botswana, the Arctic, Antarctica, and India. ‘Events’ enables you to track where we are and when – information that you will also find in the Calendar section of our website.

Update on Big Cat Diary

Published by under Big Cat Diary

The frustration of waiting for the latest series of Big Cat Week to air is tempered by talk of going live with the next series, hopefully to be filmed in Sept 2008
